What Is the Best Present for a Musician?
Before we really get started with the gifts, i should be completely clear than when I say “a huge selection” I’m not just whistling Dixie – I am pretty amazed to see other buyer’s guides for the best musical gifts include maybe a half dozen to a dozen ideas, when I had so much trouble not going into the hundreds!
So below you will find a lot of ideas, broken up into a few different categories, but since that in itself might be a little daunting I thought it might help to put together a little mini-guide here.

The Best Gifts for Pianists / Keyboard Players
Really, any one of these gifts would make a brilliant choice for the musician on your list, but there are a lot more below, ranging from super-cheap to upper crust – well, to be fair, only a couple of items are silly expensive, and they are about the best and most amazing presents I could possibly imagine for a musician – a Roland F-140R Digital Piano, a Martin D-15M Acoustic Guitar, the aforementioned Apple iPad Pro…
But the super-cheap gifts on our list are also amazing, as is everything in between.
Did I mention how much fun I’m having? I hope you will too, with this 2023 buyer’s guide to great gifts for musicians – so let’s get into it!
The Best Presents for Musicians – An Exceptionally Generous Guide
Best Gadgets and General Gifts for Musicians
We’ll start out with a few gadgets that any musician would find incredibly useful and just love to have – and remember, while we musicians do project an aura of coolness and even mystery, almost every single one of us is really a geek at heart, and loves a cool techy toy.
The best value I’ve found in a general use electronic tuner and metronome – useful to any musician and a perfectly accurate and very high quality product.
A more specialized clip-on electronic tuner for guitarists, the Dunlop is the most highly rated and desirable on the market, and surprisingly inexpensive.
A fairly expensive but superb quality portable high resolution recorder and mixer that would absolutely thrill any musician.
A simple but incredibly useful and important tool for any musician who wants to record digitally on their computer – not cheap, but incredibly affordable for what it does and how well it does it.
A weird and ultra-cool portable music maker, the Orba is a bit of a cult item among musicians, who love its intuitive way of making sounds as well as its incredibly array of useful high-tech features – one of my favorite toys and a sure-fire hit!
Ok, not really a techno-gadget, and in fact decidedly old-school, this Fender key holder simply exudes cool, and is actually useful as well. And, to make sure there’s no resentment or betrayal of brand loyalty, you can also get a Marshall Jack Rack Amp Key Holder.
Not as cool as the gadgets above, and maybe not a great choice for any musician – speed metal, thrash and grunge, for example, need not apply – the superb and stunningly beautiful handmade Italian music box is the perfect gift for more refined tastes, and sounds as lovely as it looks. Besides, as even hard-cores must admit, Pachelbel rules!
I will talk more about the superb Hestra hand-made gloves below, in the best gifts for pianists and keyboard players section, but really they are an amazingly apt and wonderfully thoughtful and loving gift for any musician. The above link is for a brilliant pair of winter gloves for either men or women, but I highly encourage you to check out all of their products at the Hestra Store Page.
The Best Jewelry Gifts for Musicians
Jewelry is a pretty personal present, of course, and I can’t really represent everybody’s tastes or styles here, so I have simply chosen some of my own favorite pieces for women (mostly) and men, which are beautiful and high quality and which a musician would really love to receive.
And some of my personal favorite pieces from Beautlace Jewelry, suitable for men and women:
Best Tablets for Sheet Music
Back to tech, one of the most thoughtful and useful presents you can get for any musician is a good quality tablet.
They are especially valuable to music makers for their ability to clearly display sheet music electronically – these days almost completely taking the place of traditional paper music – but also fantastic for listening to music and watching music videos, recording and music production work and so much more. And, you know, Minecraft and stuff…
Here are my three top choices, from least to most expensive – but please realize that these are all premium gifts, and even the most affordable of them would absolutely thrill any musician.
With a big, bright and clear screen, this is the perfect budget tablet for displaying music, and with decent memory and storage, great overall performance and excellent material and build quality a wonderful general use tablet as well.
Definitely a jump up in price, this large Samsung tablet has a better, sharper and brighter screen, faster processor, more memory and storage, and is possibly the best Android tablet on the market today – especially for musicians, but really for anybody – and an amazing value.
The best tablet you can get, and the perfect tool for displaying music, the big iPad Pro is also the ultimate tablet for music production, video production and all other tasks, and the perfect personal portable computer – possibly the ultimate gift for almost any musician!
Best Headphones for Musicians
This is Speakergy, after all, and everybody here loves their headphones – really, really loves them! – and since a pair of good headphones is maybe the perfect gift for a musician, I’d like to feature several different choices – wired, wireless, over-ear and in-ear, and all gifts any music maker would flip over.
Superbly musical and highly accurate, the brand new Edifier Stax Spirit wireless headphones are already beloved among musicians, and feature superb build quality and absolutely the best tech – not cheap, but one of the best values I know.
The best in-ear headphones I’ve found for working musicians, the Shure SE425 are equally wonderful for serious or casual amateurs or for anybody who wants earbuds that are stunningly accurate, musical and built like tanks. The much more affordable SE215 are nearly their equal, a supreme value and a huge favorite among musicians.
Old-school wired headphones, the beyerdynamic DT 990 are renowned for their accuracy and musicality, their build quality and toughness and their beautiful sound.
A legend among musicians, and a standard for music production for so many years, the affordable Sony 7506 are as tough and rugged as it gets, and the perfect combination of accuracy and fun musicality.
Maybe the most popular and biggest selling product in the world today – ok, a bit of an understatement, but the incredibly musical, perfectly designed and incredibly high-tech Tozo T10 are certainly a phenomenon, and the perfect super-affordable earbuds for musicians. Of course, if you want similar excellence in design, technology and build quality, but with a more fun sound and a clear edge in cool factor, the Skullcandy Sesh Evo are a tad bit more expensive and a lot more “street.”
My favorite ultra-cheap headphones, with the accuracy, resolution and physical toughness a musician – or any music lover, for that matter – wants and needs and a dynamic, warm and fun sound that works great with all kinds of music.
Best Speakers for Musicians
A great sounding and high quality pair of speakers is one of the most thoughtful and highly appreciated gifts you can possibly get for any musician, and I am really excited to recommend a few of my favorites at various price levels.
Please note that all of my recommendations are Bluetooth wireless speakers with built in amplifiers, to make sure they will work for anybody and everybody.
That said, if you are certain the musician on your list has an amp or stereo system that they can connect wired speakers to, my best recommendations by far, for premium, mid-range and super-affordable passive speakers respectively, are the KEF Q350 Bookshelf Speakers, the ELAC Debut 2.0 Bookshelf Speakers and the Micca MB42 Bookshelf Speakers – all three clearly as good as it gets at their price level.
Wireless Bluetooth Speakers – Premium
Quite possibly the finest sounding wireless speakers on the market today, the KEF LSX II are also masterpieces of craftsmanship and a lifetime investment in quality – a truly overwhelming gift for any musician.
Wireless Bluetooth Speakers – Affordable Audiophile
A pure audiophile speaker system for a very low price, with truly superior sound, amazing material and build quality and the best technology – a sure-fire present for any musician or anybody who simply loves music.
Wireless Bluetooth Speakers – Affordable
The best sounding affordable wireless bookshelf speaker I’ve heard, the Edifier R1700 is fun and dynamic for all kinds of pop music, but accurate and refined enough for classical, jazz and acoustic music as well – and it’s a very high quality and brilliantly designed product on all levels.
Wireless Bluetooth Speakers – Fun Portable
While the JBL Boombox 2 is kind of the ultimate (but pretty expensive) choice, and the little Go 3 is inexpensive and sounds great, the Flip 6 is overall my favorite – incredibly tough, with great Bluetooth, great battery life and a wonderful design overall, and absolutely amazing sound.
The Best Gifts for Drummers
You can spend even more serious coin on a high end drummer’s throne, but the Drum Workshop CP9210AL is as good as any of them, and a real covet piece among serious drummers. Hyper-stable, comfortable and healthy, and built for a lifetime of use.
Around half the price as the Drum Workshop stool above, this Ludwig Atlas is a remarkable bargain, and sure to be an important and delightful upgrade from whatever the drummer in your life is currently perched upon.
Absolutely the best value in drum thrones on the market today, from the company that knows drums and drummers better than any other, this Pearl stool is nearly the equal of the more expensive choices I’m listing, and an incredibly thoughtful gift.
The funny thing about drummers – well, one of the many, many funny things about them – is that they’re always, always drumming. This makes a high quality practice drum pad a brilliant gift for a drummer, and the Evans Realfeel is the perfect choice.
Guaranteed to make any drummer feel like a top-tier professional, and feel like you really know and love them, the Zidjian rug is an inexplicably desirable item – a bit expensive, but an enormously impactful gift.
A fun and yet truly useful gift, the Orasant foldable portable drum set is a great choice for a drum student or younger drummer, but is also a wonderful take-with music maker for serious drummers – and it is well made, super cool and high tech, and sounds amazingly good.
You may not think you can afford to get the drummer on your list a set of high quality drums, but the Alesis Turbo Mesh electric kit is not just high quality, it is essentially pro-level, and both respected and beloved among drummers – and ridiculously affordable!
I’ve got to say that there isn’t really a ton of difference between this Vic Firth drummer’s backpack and any other premium pack, and yet any drummer worth her or his high hat would simply flip if they got one, and form a closer and more loving relationship with it than they have with even their bass player.
Speaking of Vic Firth, his drumsticks are the industry standard, and any drummer would love getting a set of Firth Classic Hickory 5A Sticks, but honestly the Promark are better, and you will blow your gift givee away just knowing this!
The Best Gifts for Guitarists
A simple, very affordable gift for a guitar player, a Perri’s Leathers guitar strap is perfectly designed, comfortable, ultra high quality and a bit of an inside secret – you’ll not only delight the guitar player on your list, but kind of amaze them as well.
Yes, there are actually better choices for any guitar player, and the Dunlop Tortex Flex 1mm are the best overall picks you can get, and a brilliant cheap present. But the Beatles picks are so cool! Maybe not great to play with, but yeah, just so very, very cool…
You may think that you can’t afford to get a truly great guitar for the guitarist on your list, and, well, you may be right… At nearly fifteen hundred dollars, the Martin D-15M is not exactly cheap, but it is truly one of the finest musical instruments in the world, and a gift that would stun any guitar player at any level. A superb gift in every way, and without doubt the one I personally would most love to receive!
But again, the Martin, superb as it is, may be out of reach for most of us, and a bit too extravagant a present. The Yamaha FG800, on the other hand, at just over 200 dollars, is probably the best value on the market today, and a great gift for a guitar student, serious musician or even professional – and it is a stunningly beautiful sounding guitar!
Even though they’re not really that expensive, Gator Cases guitar bags have a real reputation among guitarists for their quality, usefulness and durability, and for how well they protect our precious guitar. The above link is for the standard acoustic guitar size, which will work with any standard acoustic guitar, but you can choose from several other sizes.
And even though Gator bags are pretty affordable, the Cahaya padded case is less than half the price, and is also well loved among musicians – tough, well designed, attractive and especially protective.
I’ve already covered these in the first section of this buyer’s guide for the best gifts for musicians, but the Marshall key holder and the Fender Jack Rack Amp Key Holder are especially great gifts for guitarists, and anyway they’re so nice I had to include them twice!,
Speaking of Fender, their Champion 20 guitar amplifier is an incredibly powerful and beautiful sounding amp for a very low price, and would make either a superlative starter amp for use with something like the equally superlative Fender Squier Bullet Stratocaster Guitar – really, the perfect beginner’s combo, or a great backup or portable amp for a serious gigging player.
Of course the really serious player would think they’d died and gone to Rock and Roll Heaven (which is apparently somewhere in Cleveland) if they found a big bow wrapped around the legendary Fender ‘65 Super Reverb Guitar Amplifier.
The Best Gifts for Keyboard Players
There is something so touching, so caring and loving, and so just right about giving a keyboard player a pair of fine gloves, and hand-crafted Hestra gloves are as good, as luxurious, protective and long-lasting, as it gets. The superb Halberg are nominally a unisex glove, but really an ideal light winter glove for men, and the Hestra Alpine Leather Primaloft is a great choice for women, while the surprisingly inexpensive Hestra Drivers Glove is the perfect all-season choice for anybody. But that’s just the beginning, and for tons more of the best gloves on the market you can check out the Hestra Store Page.
The Safeplus 88 key roll up keyboard gives a full-sized playing experience anywhere and everywhere, and can be played through its own nice-sounding speakers, headphones or a computer or powered speaker. A great and highly thoughtful gift for either a new keyboard player or student or even a more experienced player.
But as nice, tough and highly useful as the Safeplus is, this NikoMaku 88 is a more advanced and beautiful sounding instrument, with truly expressive pressure sensitive keys and incredible sound. Still a great practice piano for a student or younger player, this is also a fully usable musical instrument for the serious keyboard player.
A top-tier full-sized digital piano may be out of reach, and (no matter how much you love the musician on your list) not really possible, but the superb Roland F-140R is surprisingly affordable, and has concert grand feel, ravishingly beautiful sound and the finest material and build quality imaginable – an overwhelmingly lavish present that will provide a lifetime of pleasure! I should also mention another fantastic true digital piano, from another legendary manufacturer, in the much less expensive KORG B2SP 88-Key Digital Piano – still a stunningly extravagant present and life-long musical companion.
So we’ve so far looked at a couple of brilliant portable pianos, and one superb digital piano, but what about the ultra-popular electronic keyboard? Well, for my money the best brand still, after decades of popularity, is Yamaha, and the Yamaha YPT270 is probably their very best value, and would make an amazing gift for any music lover. I also love the slightly more advanced, better sounding Yamaha PSR-E463, though it is more than twice as expensive.
Strangely enough, almost every keyboard player I know is sitting on a pretty poor quality seat or stool, and it is a pretty safe bet that they will be enormously thankful for such a well designed, comfortable and high quality seat as this Liquid Stands adjustable bench.
And if that same musician has their keyboard sitting on a desk, table or – worse still – their knees when they’re playing, they will be over the moon with this equally nice Liquid Stands keyboard stand, which improves their comfort, health, energy, focus and even the level of their playing.
For a touch of luxury at a (somewhat) affordable price, this stunning CPS leather piano bench provides essentially concert hall quality, comfort and appearance for home use. Pianists are known to be picky about their benches, but I’ve never known one who didn’t absolutely love this one, which is among the highest rated products on this list.
Just cool. Enough said.
