Pairing JBL speakers to your phone, computer, tablet or other Bluetooth device is quick and easy, but if you’ve never done it, or haven’t done it in a while, it can really help to have a simple and complete guide.

So that’s just what I’ve put together here – a set of step-by-step instructions on exactly how to wirelessly connect JBL speakers to a phone or PC, whether you have an Apple or Windows computer or an Apple or Android phone.

How to Pair JBL Speakers – A Quick but Detailed Guide

Before we get into specific and complete instructions on how to pair JBL speakers to your device, I will offer a very general outline, in the hopes that this quick and simple approach will be sufficient to get your speakers up and running.

To pair your JBL speaker to a phone or computer, simply:

  • Turn on your JBL speakers, which will automatically put them in pairing / discoverable mode
    • If you have paired your JBL speakers before, to the same or other devices, you might have to put them into pairing / discoverable mode manually.

  • Go to your computer or phone’s Bluetooth settings page
  • Make sure your computer or phone’s Bluetooth is turned on

How to Pair JBL Speakers to an iPhone

Before we proceed with how to pair JBL speakers to an iPhone, please make sure everything is all charged up – your iPhone and your JBL wireless speaker. Also make sure that you are playing music on your iPhone and that the volume is turned up at least a little bit – not too much, though, so you don’t get unexpectedly blasted!

And make sure that your JBL speaker and your telephone are in range of each other – of course if you’re doing this pairing process then they are probably both right there with you, but make sure they are within about 30 or so feet, and there are no major obstructions between them.

Now, to actually get them paired, you:

  1. Turn on your JBL speakers, which will automatically put them in pairing / discoverable mode
    • If you have paired your JBL speakers before, to the same or other devices, you might have to put them into pairing / discoverable mode manually.

Troubleshooting JBL Speaker Bluetooth Pairing

If you have carefully followed the above instructions and are still not getting your JBL speakers to pair with your computer or phone, you can try the following things:

  • Make sure the phone or PC and the JBL speaker are within close enough range – usually about 30 feet or so – and make sure there are no major obstructions between them
  • Make sure both the speakers and the device are charged up and turned on
  • Make sure the phone or PC is not paired with another speaker, pair of headphones or other Bluetooth device
  • Make sure your JBL speaker is likewise not paired with another PC, phone or other device
  • Make sure you’re actually playing something – music, a move, a video or any other audio source
  • Make sure that all of the volume controls are turned up at least a little, including
    • The phone or PC
    • The JBL speaker
    • The app or software you are using to play the music, movie or other audio
  • Restart your phone or computer
  • Forget your speaker in the Bluetooth settings page of your phone or computer, and then restart the whole pairing process
  • Try pairing your JBL speaker with another device
  • Try pairing another Bluetooth speaker or Bluetooth headphones with your phone or PC
  • Factory reset your JBL speaker
