JBL wireless speakers are simple and reliable, but even still sometimes you might have problems with them – they don’t seem to pair correctly, they aren’t charging, the sound is very soft or seems off somehow.

Luckily there is a simple fix for all of these problems and others, and it works almost all of the time – the factory reset. Not only is it nearly always effective, the reset will never cause any additional problems, so it’s totally safe to try.

In this article I will explain, in clear and simple steps, how to reset JBL speaker systems – specifically, their Bluetooth wireless speakers – so that you can get back to enjoying that great JBL sound!

How Do I Reset My JBL Bluetooth Speaker?

It would be great to say there was just one single, simple way to factory reset any JBL speakers.

In fact, though, different JBL speaker models use different methods for resetting, and so you’ll need to know which model you have.

But to make this all much simpler, I’m just going to write out all of the methods individually – again, as clearly and simply as possible

And to make it easy for you to find the right method, here is a list of the different JBL speaker models – simply find your speaker on the list, and click on it, and you’ll be taken to the right instructions.


Factory Resetting Your JBL Wireless Speaker: Method 1

This method will factory reset the following JBL wireless speakers:

  • JBL Boombox & Boombox 2
  • JBL Charge 3 & Charge 5
  • JBL Clip 4
  • JBL Flip 3, Flip 4, Flip 5 & Flip 6
  • JBL Pulse 2, Pulse 3 & Pulse 4
  • JBL Xtreme, Xtreme 2 & Xtreme 3

Reset instructions:

  1. With your JBL speaker turned on, press the Power and Volume Up (Volume +) buttons at the same time, and hold them both down for about 5 seconds, which will reset the speaker.
  2. After the reset, you can look at the Bluetooth settings on your phone, PC or other gadget, and the speaker should no longer be connected – if it is still connected, the reset may not have worked, so just try the previous step again, holding the buttons a little longer.
  3. A few seconds after the reset, the speaker’s name should disappear from the Bluetooth page on your phone, PC or other device, but you can also simply turn Bluetooth off and on if you don’t want to wait.
  4. Now turn your JBL speaker back on and it will go into pairing mode. At this point you can follow your normal steps to pair it with your phone, PC or other device.

If this factory reset process seems to be working, but your JBL speaker still has the same problems, there may be a more serious issue, and you should contact your dealer or JBL Customer Support.

This method will factory reset the following JBL wireless speakers:

  • JBL Charge 4
  • JBL Clip 3
  • JBL Go, Go+, Go 2 & Go 3

Reset instructions:

  1. With your JBL speaker turned on, press the Bluetooth and Volume Up (Volume +) buttons at the same time, and hold them both down for about 5 seconds, which will reset the speaker.
  2. After the reset, you can look at the Bluetooth settings on your phone, PC or other gadget, and the speaker should no longer be connected – if it is still connected, the reset may not have worked, so just try the previous step again, holding the buttons a little longer.

Reset instructions:

  • With your JBL speaker turned on, press the Power and Volume Down (Volume -) buttons at the same time, and hold them both down for about 10 seconds, which will reset the speaker.
  • After the reset, you can look at the Bluetooth settings on your phone, PC or other gadget, and the speaker should no longer be connected – if it is still connected, the reset may not have worked, so just try the previous step again, holding the buttons a little longer.
  • A few seconds after the reset, the speaker’s name should disappear from the Bluetooth page on your phone, PC or other device, but you can also simply turn Bluetooth off and on if you don’t want to wait.
  • Now turn your JBL speaker back on and it will go into pairing mode. At this point you can follow your normal steps to pair it with your phone, PC or other device.

  • JBL Flip (1)

Reset instructions:

  • With your JBL speaker turned on, press the Power button and hold it down for 30 seconds, which will reset the speaker.
  • After the reset, you can look at the Bluetooth settings on your phone, PC or other gadget, and the speaker should no longer be connected – if it is still connected, the reset may not have worked, so just try the previous step again, holding the buttons a little longer.
  • A few seconds after the reset, the speaker’s name should disappear from the Bluetooth page on your phone, PC or other device, but you can also simply turn Bluetooth off and on if you don’t want to wait.
  • Now turn your JBL speaker back on and it will go into pairing mode. At this point you can follow your normal steps to pair it with your phone, PC or other device.

Factory Resetting Your JBL Wireless Speaker: Method 6

This method will factory reset the following JBL wireless speakers:

  • JBL Link – all models

Reset instructions:

  • With your JBL speaker turned on, press the Microphone / Mute button and hold it down for between 20 and 30 seconds, which will reset the speaker.
  • After the reset, you can look at the Bluetooth settings on your phone, PC or other gadget, and the speaker should no longer be connected – if it is still connected, the reset may not have worked, so just try the previous step again, holding the buttons a little longer.
  • A few seconds after the reset, the speaker’s name should disappear from the Bluetooth page on your phone, PC or other device, but you can also simply turn Bluetooth off and on if you don’t want to wait.
  • Now turn your JBL speaker back on and it will go into pairing mode. At this point you can follow your normal steps to pair it with your phone, PC or other device.
