Sometimes she is beautiful to look at, with all the rainbow colors flashing one after the other. These colors, including yellow, green, and red, have specific things to tell you. It is essential to know why Alexa displays each color. For example, if you notice a flashing and spinning green light, it means that either you are on an active call or you have an incoming call. If the red light is flashing, be sure that the microphone is muted. You may tap the mute button again so that Alexa can hear you again. A yellow light lets you know that there is a message for you. You can ask Alexa to play the message for you and see the light vanishing.
Now, since the article is about turning off the green light, let us focus on that. Many people keep searching on how to turn off the green light. It is a fact that the light is a distraction if you are trying to focus on something or are in the middle of an important call or even trying to get some sleep. There are a few ways listed here to help you out. You can try any of the following to stop the green light from flashing.

Go For “Do Not Disturb” Option
The echo device has a “do not disturb” option that comes in handy when you are really into some important business. Naturally, you don’t want to be disturbed at such times. You can turn on the “do not disturb” option, and the green light will not flash anymore. But remember that this will turn off all alerts. There are two ways by which you can turn on this function. You can either manually turn it on or ask Alexa to do it for you.
When you ask Alexa to turn on “do not disturb,” the response you get is “I won’t disturb you”. That is so easy, right? No green light, no more alerts. If you want to get the alerts again, just say “Alexa, turn off do not disturb.” This will let you get the notifications again and, of course, with the return of the green light.
Turning on the “do not disturb” mode manually is not difficult either. In case you have some issues with the voice commands, doing it manually is a better option. The following steps will help you turn on the “do not disturb” mode manually.
- Open the Alexa app on your phone
- Open devices
- Press Echo & Alexa
- Tap on your device
- Tap on the option Do not Disturb
- Toggle it and enable Do not Disturb
You can now see that there is no flashing light even when you get calls or have other notifications. If you decide to get notifications again, simply follow the same steps, and in the last step, toggle the Do Not Disturb off. Once again, you will see notifications coming and the green light is back on.
Do Something About The Incoming Call
It was already discussed that a green light indicates an incoming call. Quite naturally, you could choose to do any of the three things – answer the call, cancel it or ignore it. When you ignore the call, the green light keeps flashing to get your attention. If you answer the call, you will notice a spinning green light. This indicates that there is an active call going on. After the call ends, there is nothing you need to do; the green light turns off automatically.
If you cancel the call, the green light turns off immediately. The next time you get a call, the light will again be flashed. The same is the case with ignoring a call. Though the green light turns off, for the time being, it again flashes on the next alert. So there is no escaping the light in this case. It is clear that this is just a temporary solution unlike the “do not disturb” option.

Disconnect Alexa From Your Device
Every time you get a call on your phone, you will notice that Alexa has the green light to give you the call notification. The moment you answer the call, the light keeps spinning, indicating an ongoing call. You can avoid this by disconnecting Alexa from your phone. This would mean that Alexa would no more alert you with notifications. If you are fine with it, this is a good option to try. Follow these steps to disconnect Alexa from your phone.
- Go to Alexa app
- Select Devices
- Select Echo & Alexa
- Choose your device
- Tap on Bluetooth devices
- Select the phone that is currently connected and tap on Forget
Once this is done, there will be no more green light on your Alexa. If you wish to get notifications again, you can connect back your phone to the device. This will again enable the green light to show when you get calls. The above steps can be followed for all the devices you wish to remove.
Switching off the green light is not a difficult thing to do. It all depends on whether you want a permanent solution and just don’t want to see the light again or a temporary solution where an occasional flashing of the light is okay with you. The “do not disturb” mode or disconnecting the device will do the work if the green light is a no-no while you are busy working, and no distractions are welcome. For all others, choose to answer, ignore or cancel the call.
